March is a super crazy month for birthday's in our family. There are 8 of them that I count. This week is my (not so little anymore) Ben's birthday. He also shares a birthday with my sister. It was a pretty cool birthday present for her.
Here they are (almost) 8 years ago celebrating their very first birthday together. It's hard to even imagine what life was like before my precious boys came along. I have never enjoyed a job more than I have enjoyed being their mom. I love planning parties for them. For the last couple of years Ben has wanted a "cowboy" birthday and I'm pretty sure that will be the theme again this year.
His 2nd birthday was all about "Elmo" who he called "Mo-Mo". Since then we've had everything from Mickey Mouse to semi truck birthday's.
This was last years cake. As you can see, very cowboy!
He is such an amazing kid! He loves to help and shows so much kindness and respect to everyone. It's a little bittersweet watching him grow up. I have loved every stage and age but I know the older he gets the more independence he's going to want. I've told him many times before, "How 'bout you live with mommy forever??" And his usual reply is, "Oh, mom, I can't live with you forever. But you can come live with me on my farm when I grow up, if you want!" Such a sweetheart.
Love your babies while you have them home. Make their birthday's special. They have only a limited number while birthday's are still fun and exciting. Even if it's more of a hassle for you and takes more time, let them help you! It teaches them so many important lessons and show's them that they are important. Dance with them and be silly without caring who's watching or what you look like. These are all things you'll be sorry you missed out on later.
Birthday cake and huge bear hugs,
xoxo Heather

Thanks, Malia! I made the elmo cake but not the cowboy one.
DeleteLove the cakes, the elmo one in particular looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I had fun making it!
DeleteAbsolute! Birthdays are a time to make them feel special! I don't care how many sleepless nights I had in the planning process, that one big smile on my girl's face on her special day told me everything was worth it. Love the elmo cake too btw!
ReplyDeleteHi, Summer! Yes, they're only little for a while, right? And thank you! His little 2 year old self was so excited when he saw that cake!
DeleteI totally love this post! It is SO true. Make them feel special now, give them all the love you can because one day they will be grown ups too. Bittersweet to think of them not being babies anymore, but so nice to know (one day) you've done a good job!
